Thanks for joining. I hope you are excited to get started on your study journey toward becoming a Professional Engineer!
A few administrative items to cover before you dive into the courses:
Logging In
The courses are hosted on Thinkific. If you ever get lost, just go to https://mechanicalpeexamprep.thinkific.com. You will need to log in with the same username and password credentials you created when you signed up (so don’t forget them!) and then you pick right up where you left off. You will find Thinkific is intuitive to navigate, but if you have any questions along the way just let me know.
Sequence
Your bundle contains several modules. You can feel free to jump around, but I suggest covering the foundational content first, then going into the core practice problems, and tackling the full practice exams toward the end of the process. You can follow the roadmap for the bundle you are enrolled in: HVAC | TFS. Even if you choose not to follow this recommendation, at the very least I would suggest watching the entire Fundamentals course first because that will get you oriented and allow you to notice the important aspects of example problems we will work on later.Office Hours
Virtual Office Hours will be held approximately every two weeks with occasional exceptions so please pay attention to the email updates and reminders regarding the schedule. You can access Live Office Hours as well as the Office Hours Archive through the Office Hours Course in Thinkific, which integrates with Zoom. Sessions will be recorded in case you are unable to attend at the scheduled time, and you will see past sessions in the archive within a week after the Live Session. Use this link to submit your questions for Office Hours no later than 3 days before the session. This link is also included in the first lesson of the Office Hours course for your convenience. The date and time of the next scheduled session will be posted directly in Thinkific within one week after the most recent session.Practice Problems Book
The Practice Problems Book is also included in the Full Access Bundle and is a great companion to the solutions videos.
Check In Chats
Monthly one-on-one Check-In Calls with me can be scheduled anytime using calendly.com/mpep. It’s up to you to schedule these proactively.
Facebook Group
The bundle includes access to the private Facebook group. Click this link to request access to the group. I have to approve each request so please bear with me if it takes up to 72 hours for your access to be approved. This group is meant to be a safe space to ask questions about what you are working on and network with others in your cohort. When you post, please be clear about what you are struggling with and what you believe the sticking point is. We learn by teaching. If you can help somebody by answering their question, or helping them formulate a better question, you are welcome to do so. All I ask is that everyone be respectful and please calibrate your confidence level before chiming in. Be careful about making statements of fact unless you are fairly confident. Be supportive, and have some fun. Feel free to introduce yourself if you are comfortable, or remain anonymous if you prefer. Note this group is not accessible to anyone who has not purchased the Full Access Bundle, so you can be sure that everyone inside is as serious as you about passing the PE Exam as you are! Finally if you prefer not to join the group that’s fine too. You can complete all the modules independently and still be more than prepared for the exam.
Study Duration
Lastly I would like to suggest you give yourself about 4 months to go through all the material in this program. I know that may sound like a long time, but there is a good reason for spacing it out. We learn better when we step away from the material long enough to integrate it, and the grooves in our minds are dug deeper the next time we see that topic. By immersing yourself for 4 months, you will put these concepts and skills into long-term memory, and the information will be with you for decades to come, rather than forgotten a year after you get your PE license. With the CBT exam being offered with flexible scheduling, I suggest setting (and if necessary changing) your test date to allow for sufficient time. Remember life will get in the way as well, so it’s good to have some margin. Factor of safety!
